Endesa has Opened Three New Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Power Plants in Manzanares, Spain

/MADRID, December 29, 2022, 13:45 GMT, EGPE, Endesa/ Endesa’s renewable subsidiary, EGPE, has recently opened the Calatrava I, Ninobe 3 and Ibereléctrica I solar plants, located in Manzanares (Ciudad Real) and is continuing to develop projects that combine renewable production and the creation of social value.

Through its renewable subsidiary Enel Green Power España, Endesa has opened the Calatrava I, Ninobe 3 and Ibereléctrica I solar plants with a total power of 66.85 MW in the municipal district of Manzanares in the province of Ciudad Real. The plants will have an annual production of 137 GWh, which will prevent 112,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year.

Endesa invested €57 million in the construction of these new renewable infrastructures that employed more than 250 people during building work, with a view to promoting the employability of local unemployed people in Manzanares and the surrounding area.

Luca Capuozzo, Head of Engineering and Construction for Iberia at Enel Green Power España said: “Building these projects was completed with high standards of safety, environmental protection and quality to ensure optimal operation for 35 years”.

Building all these projects was based on Enel Green Power’s “Sustainable Construction Site” model, including the installation of photovoltaic solar panels to meet some of the energy requirements during construction work and measures to save water by installing tanks and rainwater collection systems.

Endesa is committed to developing new renewable capacity in order to achieve the objective of total decarbonisation of its energy mix by 2040. The high volume of solar production available in Castile-La Mancha is leading the company to continue studying new possibilities throughout the region, Andalusia, always taking into consideration the social-economic development involved in renewable projects.

Endesa recently launched the Minglanilla I and II plants in the towns of Minglanilla and Motilla del Palancar in Castile-La Mancha, and they will have pioneering initiatives including a solar apiary, grazing between panels, the cultivation of saffron between solar panels and an insect hotel that aspires to enter the Guinness record book.

Through its renewable subsidiary Enel Green Power España, Endesa operates the wind farms of Motilla and Campillo II and III in Cuenca, and Caldereros, Peña and Picazo in Guadalajara, all in Castile-La Mancha. Endesa also has 4 solar plants currently under construction: Calatrava and La Revuelta in Manzanares and Encina al Sol and Estrella Solar in Puertollano. Endesa is also processing the Rocinante photovoltaic plant in Puertollano, where construction will begin in 2023, and the El Clavel plant in Montealegre del Castillo, where processing has recently begun. Furthermore, Endesa will maintain its commitment to Castile-La Mancha with the hybridisation of existing plants and new developments in future capacity tenders.
