/2^nd November 2018, David Weston, WindPower Monthly/ Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has signed a cooperation agreement with Siemens Gas Turbine Technologies (SGTT) to assemble wind turbine nacelles in Russia. SGTT, a gas turbine manufacturing joint venture involving SGRE’s majority shareholder Siemens, operates a 12,700 square metre facility in the outskirts of St Petersburg, western Russia.

From August 2019, 4,000 square meters of this facility will be put aside for the assembly of wind turbine nacelles, hubs and drivetrains, SGRE said. “SGRE is building up a supply chain network within Russia covering different components and work steps,” a spokesman for the manufacturer said.

SGRE is set to supply Italian developer Enel the turbines for the 291MW of capacity it secured in Russia’s June 2017 wind procurement round. “SGTT’s core business is the production and service of large gas turbines for power plants in Russia,” said Nico Paetzold, CEO of SGTT.

“Nevertheless, we are an agile company, and from the very beginning, we have developed SGTT to meet local market demand and deliver the best solutions to our customers. “Assembly of wind turbines will be the next step in extending our capabilities as a multifunctional production complex and the next step in our localisation strategy,” Paetzold added.
