/LONDON, July 17, 2025, 9:00 BST, RENEWABLE MARKET WATCH™/
This market report provides an incisive and reliable overview of the country’s photovoltaic sector for the next 10-year period, 2025-2034. Poland is a very interesting market due to its political and economic stability, high prices for electricity and heavy dependence on coal and lignite in power generation, which should be changed to comply with the EU renewable policy.
The cumulative installed PV capacity at the end of 2024 exceeds 20,800 MW (20.8 GW), and the country has achieved impressive growth over the past five years. However, this represents only the potential for further growth if the Polish government finds a suitable balance for its frequently revised renewable energy policy in recent years. In Poland, 4.4 GW of new solar PV power capacity was installed in 2024.
Approximately 8% of the country’s electricity comes from solar sources. By 2030, nearly 30 GW of operating solar capacity in Poland is planned under the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP). Around 30% of Polish final energy demand is to come from renewable sources, according to the NECP.
One of the most successful examples of sustainable solar energy use in Poland is the widespread adoption of residential solar installations. Prosumers play a vital role in Poland’s energy transition. The upward revision of the national renewables target is, in part, due to the popularisation of distributed energy production in prosumer installations. At the end of 2025, over 1.5 million on-grid rooftop micro installations in the country produced photovoltaic energy. The total capacity of these installations exceeds 12.7 GW. They exported more than 8.5 TWh of electricity to the grid in 2024.
As of July 2, 2025, a new regulation in Poland will introduce the virtual prosumer model, in addition to individual, tenant, and collective prosumers. Virtual prosumers will be permitted to generate energy at a different location from where it is consumed. This change has the potential to further enhance the adoption of renewable energy in the country and improve grid flexibility, which has been challenged by the significant growth of residential solar installations over the past five years.
