Blackstone has acquired a significant equity stake in Eurowind Energy, a leading European renewable energy developer, thereby strengthening the company’s financial resources and strategic position to drive large-scale expansion of renewable energy projects across Europe. Jens Rasmussen will remain as Chief Executive Officer and, together with the energy and telecommunications conglomerate Norlys, will retain majority ownership in Eurowind Energy.
Eurowind Energy, headquartered in Hobro, Denmark, has established itself over the past two decades as a premier developer, constructor, and operator of renewable energy assets. Its current portfolio spans onshore wind, solar, battery storage, and biogas solutions in 16 countries, representing a combined installed capacity of 1.6 GW. Blackstone’s entry as a co-owner marks a strategic partnership to scale these operations across Europe.
The infusion of up to €2 billion in capital from Blackstone will enable Eurowind Energy to fast-track its renewable energy project development pipeline. This investment comes at a critical juncture of rising electricity demand and heightened supply challenges across European energy markets.
The founding partners of Eurowind Energy—CEO Jens Rasmussen, Søren Rasmussen, and Jakob Kortbæk—alongside Norlys, will retain majority control of the company. Blackstone will initially acquire a 24.7% equity interest, reinforcing a collaborative ownership structure designed to support both continuity and ambitious growth. Eurowind Energy has set a strategic objective to deliver new energy parks with a combined capacity of 1.5 GW annually through 2030, while also enhancing existing assets with advanced battery storage installations to improve grid reliability and flexibility.
Blackstone brings a robust track record in renewable energy investments, having previously partnered with Invenergy, the largest independent renewable energy producer in the United States, and established a joint venture with NextEra Energy, the world’s largest wind and solar developer. The transaction is scheduled to close before year-end, pending regulatory approval.
