/SOFIA, BULGARIA, October 1, 2026, 11:30 CEST, RENEWABLE MARKET WATCH™/ Bulgarian company VESS Modules has launched a state-of-the-art, fully automated photovoltaic module manufacturing facility in Kardzhali, representing a strategic €15 million investment. The new plant is set to create 200 skilled jobs, positioning Kardzhali as an emerging hub for advanced solar technology production in Europe.
This investment underscores the company’s commitment to scaling up high-value manufacturing and strengthening Bulgaria’s presence in the clean energy supply chain. With an initial annual production capacity of 1 gigawatt, the facility is designed for rapid scale-up, with plans to triple output to 3 gigawatts in the coming years. VESS Modules anticipates reaching full operational capacity within two to three years, enabling the company to meet growing domestic and international demand for high-efficiency solar modules.
The Kardzhali facility is equipped with cutting-edge manufacturing technologies, placing it among the most advanced photovoltaic module plants globally. Beyond job creation, the project establishes Bulgaria as a competitive exporter of next-generation solar products and supports the region’s integration into global renewable energy value chains. To support long-term workforce development, VESS Modules will offer specialised training programs for young talent in electronics, robotics, and advanced manufacturing. These initiatives are designed to build a pipeline of highly qualified specialists, ensuring the sustainability of high-tech production and reinforcing Kardzhali’s reputation as a centre for innovation.
“Bulgaria cannot and should not be the sole market for the technologies of the future. What we are working towards is for Bulgaria to become the place where these technologies are produced,” said the Deputy Minister for the Economy, Investment and Industry, Krasimir Yakimov, during the factory’s opening ceremony.
Deputy Minister Krasimir Yakimov also emphasised the need to create a better business and investment environment, less regulatory burden and faster procedures, so that businesses can grow and find greater prospects for their development in Bulgaria: “Our task as a state is to create the conditions for more investment that generates jobs and high added value.”
Speaking to local media, company representatives said that once full production capacity is reached, production employment is expected to reach around 300.
