Turkish Company Eksim Energy has Accelerated its Hybrid Investments to Combine its Wind Farms with Solar Power

/LONDON, August 3, 2026, 11:00 BST, RENEWABLE MARKET WATCH™/

Eksim Energy has successfully executed hybridisation projects at the İzmir Ovacık and Balıkesir Susurluk wind farms and is now advancing similar upgrades at the Tokat Killik and Amasya Kayadüzü wind farms. With a total installed capacity reaching 1.2 GW, the company is strategically leveraging existing grid infrastructure to maximise clean energy output, improve asset utilisation, and drive operational efficiency through this transformation.

As a subsidiary of Eksim Holding that operates exclusively in renewable energy, Eksim Energy positions its investments in hybrid power plants as a next-generation production model. This approach is designed to maximise the efficiency of existing assets and infrastructure. By integrating solar PV with wind capacity at multiple sites, the company is enhancing the flexibility of its generation portfolio and increasing system reliability, while optimising capital deployment and accelerating the transition to a low-carbon energy mix.

Eksim Energy’s strategic objective is to scale its renewable energy portfolio—now at 1.2 GW—by adopting a highly efficient, flexible, and sustainable production model. Hybrid investments are regarded not simply as incremental capacity additions, but as transformative steps to optimise grid connections, balance generation profiles throughout the day, and strengthen the overall resilience and sustainability of its operations.

“Hybrid power stations are a critical enabler for the integrated, flexible energy systems of the future,” Arkın Akbay, CEO of Eksim Enerji, observed, commenting on the company’s strategy. “The renewable energy investment landscape is evolving.” He underscored that, in the current environment, priority is shifting toward solutions that enhance system flexibility, production quality, and asset optimisation, in addition to capacity expansion.

He added: “In today’s renewable energy sector, the focus extends beyond simply increasing installed capacity. The industry is moving toward smart, balanced, and efficient utilisation of existing resources. Integrating wind and solar generation on the same site not only enhances grid utilisation and enables more consistent energy output throughout the day, but also increases the flexibility and reliability of the overall energy system. These hybrid investments represent a foundational step in our transition to advanced, integrated energy systems—supported by digitalisation, energy storage, and flexible generation strategies.”

Akbay further emphasised the commercial advantages of hybridisation, stating: “Multi-source generation projects can be deployed far more rapidly than entirely new greenfield sites, due to streamlined connection processes, reduced permitting complexity, and lower total project costs. Recent regulatory reforms have accelerated the adoption of this model, with approved hybrid capacity in Turkey now exceeding 5 GW. We expect rapid commissioning of new hybrid projects in the near term, confirming that hybridisation has become a key driver of efficiency and a complementary pillar of the renewable energy sector.”

As a result of completed hybrid investments, Eksim Enerji has increased the mechanical installed capacity at the Susurluk Wind Farm to 86.8 MW and at the Ovacık Wind Farm to 41.6 MW. Upon completion of ongoing hybridisation at the Tokat Killik and Amasya Kayadüzü sites, total power capacity will rise to 56.8 MW, further strengthening the company’s operational scale and market position in Turkey’s renewable energy sector.
