Voltfang Inaugurated the Largest European Second-life Battery Storage plant in Germany

/AACHEN, GERMANY, August 20, 2025, 12:45 CET, RENEWABLE MARKET WATCH™/

Voltfang, a prominent supplier of eco-friendly battery storage solutions for industrial, commercial, and large-scale applications, has officially launched its new production facility, the “Voltfang Future Fab,” located in Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia. The inauguration of the factory was carried out by Hendrik Wüst, the Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia, along with Sibylle Keupen, the Mayor of Aachen. This facility is dedicated to the manufacturing of high-performance, energy-dense storage systems. The planned production capacity aims for 250 MWh by the end of 2026 and is expected to reach 1 GWh by the end of 2030.

The new facility at the TRIWO Technopark Aachen spans 6,000 square meters and is situated in the former production areas of the electric vehicle manufacturer Next.e.GO. Since commencing production in April, Voltfang has been manufacturing energy storage systems that utilize second-life and surplus batteries obtained from the European automotive sector. This approach reduces dependence on supply chains from Asia and contributes to local value creation. In the previous year, Voltfang’s production capacity increased fivefold. The company is contributing to the energy transition and the long-term competitiveness of Germany as an industrial hub.

On site, the Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hendrik Wüst, said:  “Voltfang demonstrates how sustainable innovations can provide real impetus and contribute to the competitiveness of our industry. With the opening of Europe’s largest second-life battery factory, Voltfang is setting a milestone for a sustainable energy system. Used batteries are being transformed into powerful storage systems that increase security of supply and reduce critical dependence on global supply chains. Such innovations strengthen structural change in the Rhineland region and create new prospects for the region.”

David Oudsandji, co-founder and managing director of Voltfang, is pleased with the great interest: “The battery storage market is growing dynamically, and Voltfang is actively shaping this growth. Today’s opening is an important step for Voltfang and a strong signal for the future of energy supply in Germany and Europe. We are delighted to welcome so many partners, supporters, and companions here in Aachen today. Our vision is to develop high-performance battery storage systems for German and European industry and to manufacture them here in Germany. With the new plant, we are not only scaling up but also making an important contribution to the economic, ecological, and social transformation of the lignite-mining region in North Rhine-Westphalia.”
