Solar energy’s rapid growth in Poland is evident – even casual observers will note the construction of solar photovoltaics (PV) power plants across the country. Mandatory targets of the Directive 2009/28/EC on the Promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources set by the European Union (EU) for Poland are set to 15 % by 2020.
Solar PV power in Poland can supply a significant amount of electricity that is both environmentally and economically attractive. Renewable Market WatchTM estimates that cumulative installed solar PV capacity in Poland may exceed 1.37 GW by the end of 2020, thanks to the government support, rapidly-falling solar power costs, and a growing role for batteries, including electric vehicle batteries, in balancing electricity supply and demand. Investments in solar photovoltaic (PV) projects under the auctions for energy from renewable energy sources (RES) shall have a prevailing part of the Polish solar PV market.
