Econergy Secures EUR 40.5M Project Financing for its 87 MW Oradea Solar Photovoltaic Project in Romania

/BUCHAREST, ROMANIA, December 3, 2025, 9:00 CET, RENEWABLE MARKET WATCH™/

Econergy Renewable Energy, a prominent European Independent Power Producer (IPP) with a strong presence across multiple EU energy markets, has successfully secured a €40.5 million project-finance agreement with UniCredit Bank. The financing package will support the development and construction of Econergy’s flagship 87 MW Oradea solar photovoltaic project located in the Crișana region of north-west Romania. This milestone transaction not only demonstrates the growing appetite of leading financial institutions to back large-scale renewable energy projects in the Romanian market but also highlights Econergy’s robust track record in project execution, regulatory compliance, and long-term asset management. The Oradea solar project is expected to make a significant contribution to regional decarbonisation targets, boosting local clean energy generation capacity and reinforcing Romania’s role in Europe’s accelerating transition to sustainable power.

The Oradea solar project achieved full grid connection and commenced commercial operations in August 2025, enabling immediate revenue generation for Econergy Renewable Energy. This milestone marks a critical step in optimizing the project’s financial structure, as the facility is now being utilized not only to generate clean electricity for the Crișana region but also to refinance the construction loans that supported its development. This approach improves capital efficiency and strengthens the company’s balance sheet, positioning Econergy for further growth in the Romanian market.

In line with its broader strategic vision to enhance the flexibility and value of its Romanian solar portfolio, Econergy has announced plans to integrate a 68 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Oradea site. The addition of this large-scale BESS will enable the project to store surplus solar power, balance grid fluctuations, and participate in ancillary service markets, ultimately increasing the reliability and profitability of the overall energy asset. The expected capital expenditure for this storage expansion is approximately €21 million, with the BESS projected to deliver an average of €8.4 million in additional annual revenues and €6.7 million in EBITDA over its first five full years of operation. This strong financial performance underscores the project’s role as a key driver of long-term value creation for Econergy and its stakeholders.

The Oradea project also marks the second project finance transaction completed with UniCredit Bank, underscoring the ongoing institutional trust in Econergy’s project pipeline, technical execution, and disciplined financial management. UniCredit’s continued partnership not only facilitates access to competitive financing but also reflects the growing appeal of hybrid renewables-plus-storage assets in Romania’s rapidly evolving energy sector.
