Moldova and Denmark signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to Cooperate on Clean Energy Transition and Development of Renewable Energy

/COPENHAGEN, DENMARK, September 9, 2025, 10:00 CET, RENEWABLE MARKET WATCH™/

Moldova and Denmark have formalised their partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering collaborative efforts in several key areas. This agreement focuses on the development and implementation of energy policy, strategic planning initiatives, and the promotion of renewable energy sources. Additionally, it emphasises the importance of enhancing energy efficiency, paving the way for a more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy landscape in both countries.

“The development of renewable energy sources and the improvement of energy planning are key pathways to achieving our country’s energy independence,” said Dorin Junghietu, Minister of Energy of Moldova. “With the support of our development partners, we have made significant progress in several areas, including energy efficiency, which, in the near future, will mean a higher level of comfort for our citizens, achieved with lower energy consumption and reduced utility bills. Now is the time to transform this international support into tangible results that will elevate Moldova’s energy sector to a new level. We thank Denmark for its openness to this collaboration.”

“I look forward to our new bilateral energy cooperation that contributes to the energy transition, economic development and greater energy security in Europe,” said Lars Aagaard, Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities of Denmark. “These are topics that are crucial across Europe. Furthermore, I hope that this cooperation will help support greater integration between the Republic of Moldova and the EU in the energy sector.”

The agreement outlines a comprehensive framework for fostering collaboration in various aspects of energy policy. It emphasises the importance of exchanging expertise and best practices to enhance the effectiveness of energy strategies. A key focus is on encouraging public-private partnerships that can drive progress and innovation in the sector.

In particular, the collaboration will extend to research and development initiatives aimed at pioneering new renewable energy technologies. This includes support for establishing robust regulatory frameworks that facilitate the transition to clean energy solutions. Additionally, the agreement envisions the joint creation of demonstration projects that serve as examples of successful implementation, along with targeted training initiatives designed to build capacity within the workforce.

Innovative technologies, such as smart grids that optimise energy distribution and consumption, energy storage systems that enhance reliability and efficiency, and advanced district heating systems that provide sustainable heating solutions, will also be developed collaboratively. This multifaceted approach aims to accelerate the adoption of clean energy and create a sustainable energy future.
