New Solar PV Project Developments in Turkey

Investor’s expectations for the positive development of Turkish solar energy market have sharply increased since 2013 due to the number of fundamental factors. 2015 seems to be an important year for the proper continuous development of Turkey’s solar PV market. It is clear that the country’s energy dependence is high, and the Turkish government would like to diminish it as much as possible and as soon as possible in the next years. This is one of the reasons that many investors have been waiting with interest since a few years establishment of Turkish Solar PV market. Some of these investors like CSUN, Belectric, Hanwha QCELLS and others already entered Turkish solar market, while other investors are waiting to see the more matured market structure for entrance. Turkey’s electricity transmission company (TEIAS) finished tender procedures and awarded 228 MW licensed solar projects in January 2015 another 302 MW at the end of April 2015.

Some of the announced landmark deals at Turkish solar PV market, in the first half of 2015 are as follows:

A joint venture partner of Belectric in Turkey – Belectric Kuloğlu Güneş Elektrik Santrallari Teknolojisi A.Ş. will install 77.4 MW solar projects from Turkish first licensing round.

JinkoSolar Holding Co., Ltd., a global leader in the solar PV industry, announced that it would supply 50 MW of solar PV panels to Tegnatia, one of Turkey’s leading renewable energy developers.

Dyesol has been engaged by Nesli Dye Solar Cells Enerji Sistemleri Sanayi Ve Ticaret Anonim Sirketi (Nesli) to complete a detailed feasibility study establishing a glass-based DSC volume manufacturing facility in Turkey. After that in March 2015, the Development Bank of Turkey (TKB) announced that it would support Dyesol’s perovskite-based PV technology production plant in Turkey with a projected capacity of 600 MW.

Solar Frontier Europe, a subsidiary of the world’s largest CIS solutions provider, Solar Frontier, has signed a 23 MW module supply agreement with Konar Energy, a leading solar energy generator in Turkey. The agreement was signed at Solarex 2015 in Istanbul. Solar Frontier will be supplying its proprietary CIS thin-film modules, manufactured in Japan, to Konar Energy for five upcoming solar power plants in Turkey.

Conergy announced a joint venture called RKT Conergy with Cenay Group for its further operations in the Turkish solar PV market.
