New solar photovoltaic capacity reached a record 98 GW in 2017, up 29 % from the previous year, while new wind capacity was at 52 GW, 4 % lower than in 2016. Generation from renewables is expected to exceed 7,600 TWh by 2021 — equivalent to the total electricity generation of the United States and the European Union put together today.
