Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) has initiated the distribution of its first loans for renewable energy projects under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Recently, BGK entered into two significant agreements totalling over PLN 475 million (EUR 112 million) with TAURON Polska Energia SA and Elektrownia PV Żary-Marciszów Sp. z o.o. These funds are earmarked for the construction of large-scale photovoltaic installations, marking a crucial step in the deployment of renewable energy resources through the Energy Support Fund.
According to the Ministry of Climate, these agreements are pivotal for advancing Poland’s climate objectives and fostering a modern, low-emission economy. Krzysztof Bolesta, Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment, stated the government’s commitment to allocating these funds to support investments in renewable energy, energy storage, grid modernisation, and the development of hydrogen and biofuel technologies. He emphasised that these actions will enhance the decarbonization process, improve energy security, and contribute to lowering energy costs.
BGK identifies energy transformation and adaptation to climate change as central components of its strategic initiatives under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The bank has committed PLN 83.7 billion specifically to these areas. Professor Marta Postuła, First Vice President of BGK, highlighted that loans from the Energy Support Fund are critical instruments for financing strategic energy projects across sectors, thereby strengthening Poland’s energy transformation.
TAURON Polska Energia SA is set to utilise a loan of PLN 268.65 million (EUR 63.8 million) to construct photovoltaic farms with a total capacity of 120 MW. These installations will be developed in the Mysłowice and Ogrodzieniec municipalities within the Silesian Voivodeship. Grzegorz Lot, CEO of TAURON, expressed the company’s commitment to pursuing energy transition projects to provide cleaner air for future generations and to meet customer expectations for zero-emission, more affordable energy.
The second loan, amounting to PLN 206.6 million (EUR 49 million), has been granted to R.Power Group to construct the Żary-Marciszów photovoltaic power plant, with a capacity of 127 MW. This facility will be situated in the Żary and Nowogród Bobrzański municipalities in the Lubusz Voivodeship. Tomasz Sęk, co-founder and board member of R.Power, noted that securing financing under the National Energy Programme is a prestigious recognition of the company’s status as a significant independent energy producer in Poland. He acknowledged the role of public support in accelerating the country’s energy transition and in enabling the development of large-scale photovoltaic projects.
In summary, the agreements signed by BGK amount to over PLN 475 million (EUR 112 million) and represent the initial loans approved under the Energy Support Fund, which aims to facilitate the energy transition in Poland.
