/MADRID, SPAIN, September 1, 2025, 10:00 CET, RENEWABLE MARKET WATCH™/ Iberdrola España, the Spanish arm of the multinational energy company Iberdrola, has proudly launched its new solar photovoltaic plant near the town of Ciudad Rodrigo. This facility, which is the company’s second solar installation in the province of Salamanca, stands as one of the largest solar energy projects in the entire Castile and León region.
Boasting an impressive capacity of 316 MW, the plant is designed to harness the power of the sun to produce clean, renewable energy. This output will be sufficient to supply electricity to more than 155,000 households, significantly contributing to a reduction in harmful carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 75,000 tonnes per year, thereby promoting a more sustainable future.
The solar photovoltaic (PV) plant, a significant project developed in collaboration with Norges Bank, is situated on an expansive 439 hectares of land between Valdecarros and the scenic Torralba mountain range. This facility is equipped with more than 460,000 state-of-the-art photovoltaic modules, designed to harness solar energy efficiently. The total investment for this ambitious project amounted to €200 million, reflecting its scale and importance in the transition to renewable energy. Notably, during the peak construction periods, the project provided substantial economic benefits to the region by creating approximately 800 jobs, supporting local workers and businesses. This initiative not only contributes to sustainable energy production but also plays a vital role in boosting the local economy and employment opportunities.

The construction phase involved significant participation from local suppliers. Notable examples include Tecinsa, a local engineering company that constructed the transformer substation; Perez Coco, which supplied cranes; and Solar B-Max, responsible for mechanical assembly. Additionally, the firms Montero, Sierra de Francia, and Sánchez Cepa provided concrete, with Sánchez Cepa also supplying aggregates. La Ilustración and La Serrana supplied gravel and sand; Maderas Caeval handled vegetation clearing; and Cubas Goyo offered irrigation services.
Iberdrola, a leader in renewable energy, is deeply committed to fostering a sustainable future for our planet. Through its various initiatives, the company not only facilitates the transition to clean energy but also actively works to protect and enhance the biodiversity of ecosystems. This includes caring for a wide range of plants and wildlife, which are integral to maintaining ecological balance. Additionally, Iberdrola is dedicated to preserving cultural heritage and promoting the development of rural areas in Spain, ensuring that both the environment and local communities thrive together in harmony.
