Ignitis Renewables, an international green energy company, is expanding its presence in Latvia. Recently, they announced that the Vārme solar farm has begun operations, and today, the Stelpe Solar Farm I has officially reached its commercial operation date. Spanning 85 hectares, this power plant has a total installed capacity of 72.5 megawatts (MW) and is equipped with 121,000 solar panels.
“This project symbolizes our strong commitment to creating a green and secure energy ecosystem in Latvia and the entire region. This solar farm will help supply thousands of households with clean electricity, while also promoting local economic growth and strengthening community partnerships”, says Baiba Lāce, Head of Ignitis Renewables in Latvia.
The Stelpe Solar Farm I is being developed in the southern part of Latvia, specifically in Bauska Municipality. The total investment for the first phase of the solar farm, which includes both acquisition and construction costs, is projected to be up to EUR 50 million. The solar farm will operate under market conditions, and the energy it generates will contribute to the local supply of green energy.
The Stelpe solar project includes two separate sites, each with a capacity of 72.5 MW. It is one of three large-scale solar farms being developed by Ignitis Renewables in Latvia. The other two projects are the 94 MW Vārme solar farm, which just reached its commercial operation date this week, and the 174 MW Tume solar farm, which is still under development.
Together, these three power plants will have a total installed capacity of over 400 MW, providing renewable electricity to nearly 200,000 households each year.
The company collaborates closely with local communities and municipalities while developing its projects in Latvia. It implements financial support initiatives and follows high environmental standards. This project is part of a broader vision to create a cleaner, more reliable, and sustainable energy system throughout the Baltics.
