/WARSAW, POLAND, May 5, 2026, 11:45 CEST, RENEWABLE MARKET WATCH™/ Axpo and R.Power have entered into a landmark multi-year agreement to optimise the commercial operation of a major battery energy storage system (BESS) in Poland. The forthcoming 300 MW/1,200 MWh facility, to be developed in Dzięgielewo, Mazovia province, is set to significantly advance grid flexibility and resilience within Poland’s power sector. This long-term partnership marks the largest optimisation contract for a single BESS project in Central and Eastern Europe and stands among the most substantial agreements across the broader European energy storage market.
BESS optimisation involves the strategic management of storage asset operations and market participation to maximise revenue streams and enhance asset value. This process encompasses both energy arbitrage—charging and discharging the battery in response to market signals—and the provision of ancillary services to grid operators. The inclusion of a guaranteed minimum revenue mechanism, akin to the structure of long-term power purchase agreements, underpins project bankability and mitigates investment risk. By partnering with a proven commercial optimisation provider such as Axpo, asset owners can focus on project delivery and operational excellence while securing reliable returns.
Axpo Polska Managing Director Mateusz Marczewski said: “Our partnership with R.Power on the Dzięgielewo project is another step towards building Axpo’s leading position in the large-scale energy storage segment in Poland. Our goal remains to maximise the value of our partners’ assets throughout their entire life cycle – from participation in power and ancillary services markets to a commercialisation model tailored to bankability requirements.”
Axpo Polska Head of Origination Krzysztof Włodyga added: “The trust we have built with R.Power through PPA projects and our recent agreement for Jedwabno enabled us, in a short time, to define a cooperation framework for an asset as large as the Dzięgielewo storage project. A key challenge was scaling solutions to 300 MW and refining them in the context of rapidly evolving operational and regulatory standards.”
Building on their successful collaboration in optimising the Jedwabno energy storage project in northern Poland, Axpo and R.Power—a leading pan-European Independent Power Producer—are further expanding their strategic partnership with this larger-scale initiative. The new contract encompasses comprehensive optimisation services for the planned 300 MW/1,200 MWh storage facility in Dzięgielewo, east-central Poland, reinforcing both companies’ commitment to innovative energy solutions.

This contract represents an unprecedented milestone in the Central and Eastern European energy storage sector and positions the Dzięgielewo facility as a flagship project within the evolving European BESS landscape. The agreement is structured as a long-term arrangement commencing at commercial operation and extending through to the end of 2038. It features a profit-sharing model between Axpo and R.Power, underpinned by a minimum revenue guarantee—a structure specifically designed to enhance financial certainty and support the long-term viability of Dzięgielewo, one of the largest planned BESS installations in Poland and a cornerstone of R.Power’s 1.7 GW/6.3 GWh national energy storage pipeline.
The scale and technical capacity of the Dzięgielewo BESS is projected to deliver substantial improvements in grid flexibility, facilitate the integration of increasing volumes of renewable generation, and provide critical ancillary services to Poland’s balancing market. The long-standing partnership between R.Power and Axpo in Poland encompasses long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) covering approximately 300 MW of photovoltaic capacity, as well as the ongoing optimisation of the Jedwabno storage facility (150 MW/300 MWh). With the addition of the Dzięgielewo agreement, the total contracted storage capacity managed by R.Power and Axpo will reach 450 MW/1,500 MWh, further consolidating their joint leadership in the Polish energy storage market.
R.Power Chief Commercial Officer Rafał Hajduk said: “We are expanding our energy storage base to structurally balance our growing PV portfolio and deliver stable, clean energy in Europe. Long-term commercialisation agreements such as this are not only fundamental to the delivery of our own pipeline but also lay the groundwork for the growth of utility-scale BESS in highly promising markets such as Poland. Our multi-year partnership with Axpo and recent experience on the Jedwabno project enabled rapid and effective alignment on the framework for Dzięgielewo, which will set a new benchmark for energy storage in CEE.”
This latest Dzięgielewo contract further consolidates Axpo’s market leadership as a preferred technology and commercial optimisation partner for utility-scale energy storage in Poland. With a longstanding track record in developing, constructing, and optimising large-scale storage assets across Europe, Axpo leverages 25 years of experience in Poland, where it stands among the largest independent energy dealers and renewable energy offtakers. The company currently manages a renewable portfolio of approximately 16 TWh and actively develops photovoltaic, BESS, and biogas projects nationwide.
