The smarter E AWARD 2026 is one of the energy industry’s most respected innovation prizes, awarded alongside Europe’s largest energy exhibition in Munich. Their EXERON CheckMate inverter – the heart of AC block system X-BESS, impressed an independent expert jury from a highly competitive global field with its modular architecture, outstanding efficiency and reliability, purpose-built for large-scale battery energy storage installations. This recognition adds to a landmark year for IPS: their factory has been designated a Strategic Project of the European Commission under the Net-Zero Industry Act, and we were named Battery OEM of the Year at the prestigious Energy Storage Awards in London.

International Power Supply (IPS) opened a factory in October 2025 with an impressive annual production capacity of 3 gigawatt-hours (GWh), and is planning to expand to 5 GWh by the end of 2026. In addition, a second fully automated production facility is currently in the design and planning phase and, when completed, will bring the company’s total production capacity to a remarkable 15 GWh by the end of 2027. This significant increase in production capability would position Bulgaria as a key manufacturer, enabling the country to supply up to 15% of Europe’s anticipated demand for battery energy storage systems, thereby reinforcing its role in the continent’s energy infrastructure.

The scale and significance of this investment are strategic not only for Bulgaria, but also for Europe as a whole. The newly launched EXERON X-BESS is a next-generation battery energy storage system, meticulously engineered to meet the rapidly growing demand for flexible and reliable solutions to stabilise the electricity grid. It also ensures the security of energy supply, especially as the share of renewable energy sources within the electricity system continues to rise. The introduction of this innovative technology positions International Power Supply AD (IPS) as a leading force driving the energy transformation across Europe, setting new standards for efficiency, sustainability, and reliability.

This investment received official recognition as a strategic production capacity for net-zero emission technologies in June of this year. As a result, Bulgaria has been placed among the select group of countries now playing a key and influential role in the European and global transition to clean and sustainable energy sources. This acknowledgement underscores Bulgaria’s commitment to contributing to the worldwide efforts to combat climate change and achieve ambitious environmental targets.

This major investment will make a substantial contribution to Europe’s energy security, industrial resilience, and the development of a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem. With the commissioning of the new factory, the company is strategically positioning Bulgaria on the European map of clean technologies.
