Moldova Launches Tender for 170 MW Wind Power Plants with 44 MWh Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

/LONDON, December 19, 2025, 9:30 GMT, RENEWABLE MARKET WATCH™/ The tender for the construction of wind power plants with a total capacity of 170 MW, with the obligation to install energy storage systems of 44 MWh, was launched today, with the publication of the announcement in the Official Gazette and on the official website of the Ministry of Energy.

This auction marks a first for the Republic of Moldova by including the storage component, with the aim of increasing the flexibility and reliability of the national energy system and the electricity generation curve. Potential investors can request clarifications until February 1, 2026, and submit offers between February 16 and March 31. At the same time, an investors’ conference will be organised on January 29, 2026, during which the provisions of the Tender Documentation and the tender procedure will be discussed.

The winning bids will be those with the lowest price compared to the ceiling price of MDL 1.44 (EUR 0.073) and not exceeding the cumulative capacity of 170 MW. The power plants will be built based on the “fixed price/variable premium” support scheme. The implementation of these auctions will contribute to increasing the share of renewable energy by 5.8% toward achieving the national objective of 30% renewable energy by 2030. Together with the first auction of 165 MW, wind energy will cover approximately 11.4% of this objective.

It is estimated that the new investments will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 1.4 million tons of CO₂, equivalent to the annual emissions produced by approximately 310,000 cars.
