/BUCHAREST, ROMANIA, October 31, 2025, 10:15 CET, RENEWABLE MARKET WATCH™/ Earlier this month, a signing ceremony took place for the Pălău Phase II 342 MW Photovoltaic EPC Project in Romania. The event was attended by Wu Lei, Party Secretary and Chairman of Shanghai Electric Group, and Andrea Loi, Vice President of Operations at Econergy Renewable Energy Ltd.
This partnership represents a crucial step forward in the strategic collaboration between the two companies in the clean energy sector. It is expected to greatly enhance the energy transition in the region, contributing to the development of a more flexible and intelligent energy environment.
During the recent ceremony, Wu Lei, a prominent figure at Shanghai Electric, highlighted the company’s latest advancements and comprehensive capabilities in the fields of clean energy and smart manufacturing. He emphasised that Shanghai Electric places a significant emphasis on forging strong partnerships with international entities. In particular, he noted Econergy’s extensive experience in developing and operating renewable energy projects, which presents an excellent opportunity for collaboration given the complementary strengths of both companies. Wu Lei expressed optimism that the successful signing of the Pălău Phase II Project would pave the way for increased cooperation between Shanghai Electric and Econergy across a broader spectrum of sectors, including photovoltaics, wind energy, and power transmission and distribution. This partnership aims to contribute meaningfully to the global fight against climate change while also facilitating a regional transition to more sustainable energy practices.
Andrea Loi, in welcoming Wu Lei and his delegation, praised Shanghai Electric’s technological expertise and solid global reputation in power equipment and energy engineering. He remarked on the significance of the Pălău Phase II Project, citing it as one of Econergy’s key strategic initiatives not only in Romania but also within the broader Central and Eastern European market. The decision to select Shanghai Electric as the primary partner in this project underscores a high level of confidence in the company’s technological reliability, proven project execution capabilities, and extensive international experience. Loi expressed his expectation that both teams would collaborate closely to ensure smooth project progress and timely commissioning.
As of now, Shanghai Electric has made significant strides in Romania’s renewable energy landscape, successfully completing three notable photovoltaic projects: the 92 MW Pălău Phase I PV Project, the 56 MW Scurtu Mare PV Project, and the 60 MW Ovidiu EPC PV Project. The recently signed Pălău Phase II Project, which entails a 342 MW EPC PV installation, will mark Shanghai Electric’s fourth photovoltaic endeavour in Romania, demonstrating the company’s commitment to expanding its presence and influence in the region’s renewable energy sector.
