/SOFIA, BULGARIA, September 18, 2025, 9:15 CEST, RENEWABLE MARKET WATCH™/ The Maglizh Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Power Plant, recognised as one of the largest solar power facilities in Bulgaria, has officially begun its commercial operations. Developed by 360 Energy in collaboration with the principal shareholders of Eurohold, this impressive installation boasts a peak capacity of 160.5 megawatts (MW).
Enhancing its capabilities further, the plant is set to incorporate a battery storage system, which will enable it to optimise energy production and supply. The Bulgarian-German company Sunotec is the main contractor under the turnkey construction contract. It also manufactured the metal structures for the solar panels.
Green Solar Energy is responsible for two overhead power lines and the reconstruction of another, as well as an MV/HV power substation. The companies partially covered the investment with a loan from UniCredit Bulbank, Raiffeisen Bank International, OBB, and Post Bank. The photovoltaic power plant in the municipality of Maglizh is located on land classified as category 9 and 10 – the lowest levels in the agricultural classification. Eurohold’s subsidiary, Elektrohold, is responsible for the sale of electricity.
The photovoltaic power plant is built on land that is jointly owned by the municipality and private owners, which has been provided through a contract for a 30-year building lease. The total investment in the Mаglizh Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Power Plant is approximately €100 million.
The solar photovoltaic (PV) plant is equipped with high-efficiency Jinko Solar panels, renowned for their durability and performance in harnessing solar energy. In an effort to enhance the plant’s energy management capabilities, plans are underway for the installation of a comprehensive battery energy storage system (BESS), which is projected to be completed by March 2026. This state-of-the-art energy storage facility, with a capacity of 80 MWh, will be constructed by ESCO Bulgaria, a reputable contractor in the field. The BESS will incorporate advanced storage technology sourced from Huawei, ensuring reliable and efficient energy storage and management that will complement the solar generation and optimise the overall performance of the plant.
