/31st May 2019, RENEWABLE MARKET WATCHTM/ More than half of the energy used in Sweden comes from renewable energy sources. Sweden manages to combine a high energy consumption with low carbon emissions. The government’s energy policies have also promoted the use of renewable energy. The share of renewable energy used in Sweden keeps growing. Already in 2012 the country reached the government’s 2020 target of 50 per cent. For the power sector, the target is 100 per cent renewable electricity production by 2040. 

/3rd May 2019, RENEWABLE MARKET WATCHTM/ The Netherlands will not fulfil its EU 2020 renewable energy targets of 14%. The share of renewable energy will reach below 12.5%, according to the latest forecasts. However, there is quite an impressive pipeline of solar photovoltaic power projects in the Netherlands. The country is undertaking serious efforts to transform its energy system. Historically, the Netherlands relied heavily on its gas reserves, but with natural deposits dwindling, the country is looking to renewable energy to meet its energy demands. 

/25th April 2019, RENEWABLE MARKET WATCHTM/ Greece has announced the results of its 600 MW renewable energy tender awarding 437.78 MW capacity. The tender had been oversubscribed with bids coming in for 637.78 MW capacity (see 600 MW Greek Tender Gets 638 MW Bids). Greek energy regulator RAE reported the weighted average price of the winning bids in the tender was €0.057 ($0.064) per kWh with bids ranging between €0.053 to €0.06472 ($0.059 to $0.073) per kWh. /23rd April 2019, European Commission, RENEWABLE MARKET WATCHTM/ The European Commission has approved, under EU State aid rules, a scheme to support electricity production from renewable energy sources in Lithuania. The measure, open to all types of renewable generation, will contribute to the EU environmental objectives without unduly distorting competition. The scheme, with an overall budget of €385 million, will be open to all renewable installations.

/22nd March 2019, World Bank, RENEWABLE MARKET WATCHTM/ Floating solar technologies are creating major new opportunities to scale up solar energy around the world, particularly in countries with high population density and competing uses for available land. Asia is the epicentre for this new technology’s expansion, with large floating solar plants at either the tens or hundreds of megawatt-scale being installed or planned in China, India and Southeast Asia.

/12th March 2019, RENEWABLE MARKET WATCHTM/ The two windfarms with a combined operating capacity of 44.4 MW, divided between Eressou Ipsoma-Fourka (operating capacity 36MW) and Lefkes-Kerasia (operating capacity of 8.4MW) shall be commissioned by the end of H1 2019 in Greece, according to the Renewable Market Watch™. /15th February 2019, Jason Deign/ German solar inverter maker SMA Solar Technology this month gave 260,000 customers the ability to claim a cryptocurrency called SolarCoin in exchange for solar energy. The scheme, available as a feature in SMA’s Sunny Portal software for Webconnect and Sunny Home Manager customers, allows PV system owners to collect a SolarCoin for every megawatt-hour of solar energy produced.
